How It Works:

  • True, 600-dpi optical resolution (also functions at 300-DPI) with dual-CCDs capture minute details

Pros:

  • Can scan many pages in a row
  • Takes up very little space
  • Many can scan both one-sided and two-sided (duplex) documents
  • Scans quickly
  • Typically more likely to support small and unique shaped documents
  • Wide range of prices available

Cons:

  • Cannot scan books, magazines or other items that would require placing item on scanner bed
Flatbed Scanner

Flatbed Scanner

How It Works:

  • Items to be scanned are placed on the scanner bed. Some flatbed scanners can be outfitted with a document feeder

Pros:

  • Very versatile. Can scan documents, books, pictures, magazines, etc

Cons:

  • May take up more space
  • Document feeders do not handle variety of documents as well as a sheet fed
  • Can be very slow, especially without a feeder
All-In-One Scanner

All-In-One Scanner

How It Works:

  • These units often consist of a printer, scanner, copier and fax machine. They are available in both laser and inkjet varieties

Pros:

  • Very cost effective, sharing internal components
  • Conserves space

Cons:
