Find Items

Prerequisites

You should be familiar with or have completed the Adding Clients and Interactive Input exercises.

Objective

In this exercise, you will use the Find Items feature to locate an input field, input screens, and a detail entry.

Facts

Add a client and enter "ABC Bank" for the name of the bank in the Direct Deposit section of Screen 3.1, Miscellaneous Information/Direct Deposit. From the Detail tab, open the Find Items window and search for "domestic production." Re-open the Find Items window and search for the input for Form 8901. Open the Find Items window one more time and search for "abc".

 

Program Considerations

The Find Items feature can be used from anywhere in the detail input to search for an input field, input for a particular form or schedule, or user-entered text.

How?

To use the Find Items to locate an input field:

  1. Add a client and click the Detail tab.
  2. On the Detail menu, click Find Items.

  3. Select Find an input field.

  4. Enter "domestic production" in the Text to locate field and click Search. All applicable input screens containing the text are listed in the Search Results pane.

  5. Click any listed link to "jump to" that field or applicable input screen.

To use the Find Items to locate input for a form or schedule:

  1. On the Detail menu, click Find Items.

  2. Select Find input for a form.

  3. Enter "8606" and click Search. All applicable input screens affecting the form are listed in the Search Results pane.

  4. Click any listed link to "jump to" the applicable input screen.

To use the Find Items to locate user-entered text:

  1. On the Detail menu, click Find Items.

  2. Select Find user-entered text.

  3. Enter "abc" and click Search. All applicable input screens affecting the form are listed in the Search Results pane.

  4. Click any listed link to "jump to" the applicable input field.

Tips & Shortcuts

You can open the Find Items window by clicking the Find... icon in the upper-right corner of the detail input or by pressing [Ctrl]+[F].

Troubleshooting

Problem: I can't locate the text I entered.

Solution: Make sure that you select Find user entered text and you enter the text correctly in the Text to locate: box.
